About The Event
Arohanoa Mathews (Ngāi Te Rangi/Ngāti Ranginui) will give a 45-minute kōrero around a new mural in Tauranga’s CBD which honours wāhine of Ngāi Tukairangi. This mural is a living narrative – an expression of identity, resilience, and cultural pride. Our wāhine are acknowledged as vital sources of growth, wisdom, and renewal. Their presence in the mural reinforces the importance of remembering and honouring those who have come before, while also inspiring future generations to carry their legacy forward. The mural becomes a visual waiata – a song of remembrance and regeneration – rooted in Ngāi Tūkairangi whakapapa and uplifted by the wairua of Matariki.
