Matariki ki Mauao is a programme of events at the base of Mauao that involves guided tours with star navigator Jack Thatcher CNZM and workshops for schools. Our theme for this year is Tupuānuku, one of the stars in the Matariki cluster that is connected to kai (food) and rongoā (traditional medicines) that is grown within the soil or harvested from the ground.
This year our workshops for schools will be focused on basic knowledge of Matariki, utilising the Maramataka (Lunar Calendar) to assist with cultivating and harvesting kai grown in the soil, planting on Mauao, discovering the rongoā and native plants that grow on Mauao, interactive digital activities that students (and adults) can immerse themselves in, and more! Nau mai, haere mai.
Please note: School registrations will be sent via email communications. If your school has not yet received a registration, please contact Aurere at aurere@tpirt.co.nz.
