About The Event
Te Kāhui Waiata Uku is a collective of Māori clay artists connecting for Matariki 2025, through whakapapa, whenua, and a shared dedication to uku. The collective, which spans three generations, includes established, mid-career, and emerging artists (including rangatahi) each contributing their own voice to the evolving story of Māori ceramic practice. At the centre is Baye Riddell, a pioneering figure in Māori clay art whose lifelong work has helped shape the landscape of uku in Aotearoa and beyond. Each work is a waiata in clay, a continuation of the stories, knowledge, and creativity carried through generations.
