This is a rare, and potentially transformative opportunity, to gain an overview of historical and contemporary issues relevant to this area. This wānanga will help attendees to explore key concepts of Māori society, identify early Māori and European settlement and identify tangata whenua in the Tauranga City Council area.
It will also look at appropriate and mana-enhancing engagement with tangata whenua, culminating in a bus tour of the Tauranga region with manawhenua stories to enable each person to become familiar with Tauranga, it's unique people and special places.
Morning, afternoon tea and a light lunch will be provided. Places are limited to 20 so to avoid missing out please book at takawaenga@tauranga.govt.nz where we will update you with further info.
All are welcome in the spirit of kotahitanga/unity, all you need is an open mind and an enthusiasm to learn and share.
