About The Event

Te Kaurinui Parata (Ngāti Wai, Ngāti Pūkenga ki Pakikaikutu) joins local conservationist and carver Dean Flavell to talk about their experiences and mātauranga (traditional Māori knowledge) relating to these giants of the moana. This will be a rare opportunity to hear about whales, their whakapapa and their importance, from cultural exponents with up close experience.   This event is part of the Waitī Waitā Wairākei Matariki celebration day.
